Your Retirement and Wealth Management Questions Answered

The questions worth asking a financial advisor are easier to ask before the paperwork is signed than after. Here are the ones we hear most often from retirees, pre-retirees, and business owners in Castle Rock and along the Colorado Front Range.

What types of clients do you work with?

We work with individuals, couples, and families who want the pieces of their financial life working together rather than separately. That includes pre-retirees deciding when they can retire, retirees managing income and taxes, business owners and professionals with more complex compensation, and families preparing for healthcare costs or a legacy. Most of our clients are in the Castle Rock and greater Denver area.

Are you a fiduciary?

Investment advisory services are offered through Retirement Wealth Advisors, Inc. (RWA), an SEC-registered investment adviser. When we provide investment advisory services through RWA, we operate under a fiduciary standard and are required to act in your best interest. Mark McGregor also holds the Certified Financial Fiduciary® designation. Insurance and annuity products are separate from advisory services and are offered through individually licensed and appointed agents.

Are you an independent financial advisor?

Yes. McGregor Wealth Management is an independent retirement planning and wealth management firm. We are not owned by a bank, brokerage, or insurance company, and we are not required to recommend any outside company’s products. That independence means recommendations are built around your circumstances rather than around a product menu.

What are your fees?

It depends on the service. Fees for investment advisory services provided through Retirement Wealth Advisors, Inc. are generally based on the assets we manage for you and are disclosed in writing before you engage us. Insurance and annuity products are offered separately through individually licensed and appointed agents, who may receive a commission from the issuing insurance company. An initial conversation carries no cost or obligation.

Do you offer financial planning?

Yes, and it is usually where a relationship starts. A plan looks at retirement readiness, income needs, portfolio structure, risk, taxes, insurance, and legacy goals as one connected picture instead of a set of separate decisions. The plan then shapes how the portfolio is built rather than sitting beside it as a separate service.

Do you offer investment management?

Yes. We build and monitor portfolios around your goals, time horizon, and tolerance for risk, and we revisit allocation as those change. Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal, and no strategy can guarantee a profit or protect against loss in periods of declining values. What a disciplined process can do is keep the portfolio aligned with the plan it exists to support.

Can you help me with retirement planning?

Yes, it is the core of our practice. We look at when you can realistically retire, how savings convert into predictable income, how Social Security and pension decisions coordinate with withdrawals, what Required Minimum Distributions will mean, and how healthcare costs fit in. The goal is a current answer to whether you are on track, not a bound document that sits on a shelf.

Can you help with my 401(k)?

Yes. We review how the account is allocated, what the available funds actually cost, whether contributions are split appropriately between pre-tax and Roth, and what your options are when you change jobs or retire. Employer plans come with their own rules and a limited investment menu, so those decisions are best made in the context of everything else you own.

Do you offer tax planning?

Yes. We look at taxes across years rather than only at filing season, including the order in which you draw from taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free accounts, whether Roth conversions are worth evaluating in lower-income years, how withdrawals affect Social Security taxation and Medicare surcharges, and how charitable giving is structured. McGregor Wealth Management and its affiliates do not provide legal or tax advice, and we encourage you to consult your tax advisor.

Do you help with estate planning?

We handle the financial side of an estate plan, including beneficiary designations, how accounts are titled, how assets would pass to family or charity, and preparing heirs for what they will inherit. We do not draft legal documents or provide legal advice, so we work alongside your estate planning attorney or can introduce you to one.

Do you help with long-term care planning?

Yes. We look at how an extended need for care could affect your income, your assets, your spouse, and what you leave behind. Options may include traditional long-term care insurance, hybrid policies that combine life insurance with care benefits, self-funding, or some combination. Insurance is not the right answer for everyone, and the appropriate approach depends on your health, assets, and family situation.

Can you help me with Social Security?

Yes. Claiming age affects your benefit for life, and there is no universal answer. The right timing depends on your other income, your tax situation, your health and longevity expectations, whether you are still working, and what happens to a surviving spouse. We can walk through different claiming ages alongside your portfolio withdrawals so you can see how the two interact before you file. McGregor Wealth Management is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Social Security Administration or any other government agency.

Can you answer Medicare questions?

Yes. We help clients understand enrollment timing, the differences between Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement, and Medicare Advantage coverage, prescription drug coverage, and how retirement income can affect what you pay in premiums. No single option is best for everyone. The right choice depends on your health, your prescriptions, your providers, and your budget.
